A ode to the festive dotees 2008

It is nearly Christmas, things to make and buy
Four and twenty dotees, stuffed with sparkly vibes
Beads of gold, red and green, a ribbon on the top
Oh what fun to make my dolls but now I have to stop!

Sue was at the table counting out her dotee dolls
A list of special people just seemed to grow and grow
I’m ready now to pack them up and send them on their way
To wish my friends lots of joy and a happy holiday!

Mmmm...its nearly Christmas....eeek!

OMG I can't believe that there are just two weeks to go until Christmas day...and not one gift has yet been purchased! I have made a few little bits for someone who I know will appreciate them, but supporting the retail trade in these difficult times is not something I can be accused of...tut tut! Im just not 'feeling it' right now...I plan to spend the weekend rootling for the deccies - get us in a festive mood!

However, I have been a busy bee creating festive dotees....18 complete so far, and still creating! I adore them and cant wait until I have made enough to send them all to their new homes. No sneaky peaks, well...not yet anyway - you will just have to wait and see he he! I have decided that festive dotees will be our new tradition...only I will get started on them earlier next year (famous last words!)

Well, its time I took to my nest...no work tomorrow, so plenty of time to add to the pile of dotees!

But let me leave you with a piccie of my beautiful festive tin....

Aint that pretty!

Sparkles to all my crafty friends! Sue xxx

A scrummy handbag....and a dotee to match!

As soon as Mary showed me her scrummy new handbag...I was inspired to create it's very own dotee....a perfect match I think!

Lets have a close look.....

That's one gorgeous handbag Mary!

A dotee for Dot!

Dot is a very talented crafter and is the lady who inspired me to rootle for my fabric and beads and create my dotee dolls. Indeed dotee dolls are named after Dot...so to repay her in some small way for her inspiration, I made a doll for her...and it has now arrived across the world in Australia - Im so glad you love her Dot!

Here is Dot's dotee....

Be inspired and visit Dot's blog HERE

Thank you Ella!

My work buddy Ella made this cute little Christmas box...she was my crafty apprentice, but actually...she is just so talented, she doesnt need me leading her astray!

Box closed...

...box open!

It's so cute and gorgeous, thank you Ella!

Caroline wants your VOTES!!!

My crafty friend and source of much inspiration Caroline has been chosen as one of the 12 Apprentices for the Creativity Life mag. Each month they receive a box of new goodies and have to create two layouts and two cards using the products from the box, and a selection of these projects are posted on the website and are waiting for our votes.

I am declaring myself Caroline's campaign manager and ask that you go over and vote for CAROLINE GATENBY now!!!

Cast your votes HERE

Caroline is an inspirational and also a very generous crafter. During November her blog was particularly delightful with a new project for every day, with full details and pictures - a mammoth task for the benefit of fellow crafters. Caroline has a great sense of fun with both hilarious and touching poems about life..and crafting of course, and those of us who know her will always picture her with her sandalized shoes and big thickers! To enjoy the mutterings of Caroline, go visit her blog HERE

And whatever you do.....DONT FORGET TO VOTE FOR CAROLINE GATENBY!!!

An altered clipboard...

Its been a bit of a topsy turvy week one way and another, but in all the muddle I at last finished altering this pretend clipboard....it looks like it has a large clip at the top, but is in fact a flat board - nice and easy to work with though.....or so I thought! Pretty paper + pva = BUBBLES! But thankfully they smoothed out enough in the end....so this:

...was transformed into this:

I covered the board with American Craft papers - the flowers & leaves were cut from one 12x12 sheet. I blackened the edges of the board with a Sharpie marker pen, and once I pva'd the board all over and waited for the wrinkles to disappear(ish), I got busy with embellishing it. I added pretty paper & a Foof A La button to a cheapy wire bound book, tied American Craft ribbons to the wires, then hung this from the top hole with a key chain. I created a pencil holder in the back of the little book using felt, then got busy with the hacksaw and cut a long pencil in half. I then embellished the pencil with matching paper and a ribbon tied around the top. I tied ribbons to plain silver bulldog clips (bought cheaply from Wilkinsons) and have them clipped at random to the board. So its a busy looking little project...but with me, more is more lol!

I have also made two dotees this week....they are both destined for a very long journey and will be unveiled once they have reached their new homes!

I was heading for my nest a couple of hours ago....but suddenly woke up! To think, in less than 12 hours, Brenda Pinnick will be on our tele's...yay!

Sparkly vibes to all my visitors, thank you for calling by! Sue x

Bubbles Galore!

I thought I would have a little 'show off' and pop my prize winning page on here - Docrafts Crafter of the Year - Scrapbooking section 2007....and seeing as they didnt run the competition this year, I guess I still hold the crown lol! My sweetheart Bubbles (looking rather slim in some of these snaps), and my favourite template won me some cool goodies - a fabby printer, which Ive put to good use, and a camera...which Im still figuring out!

Kitties Rule!

I thought it was about time I blogged my kitties as they are my little...and not so little sweethearts! These are two of my favourite scrap pages...first Bubbles and her cool cat expressions. She is now around 7 years old, plump and cuddly and loves meowing! She loves visitors to call....except teenage boys and Joe - those she hates with a vengence lol! When little Daisy arrived on the scene, there was lots of hissing and spitting - but now Bubbles adores to mother Daisy, licking her head...and giving up the cat nest (albeit reluctantly) on demand.

So here is Daisy.....

Daisy is around 18 months old now, but this photo shows her at about 4 months - a cute little bundle of fluff! She is a live-wire - still leaping up and clinging onto anything she can get her claws into....including me when the mood takes her! She can go from a purring bundle to pirahna mood in seconds...and it pays to recognise the signs lol!

Where Bubbles is strictly a Felix cat with a side of kitty treats, Daisy will eat ANYTHING - she loves cheese, pizza, kebab, fried rice...you name it, she will nibble on it!

I adore my kitties and the house would sure feel empty without them!

My little birdhouse!

Well, today was my last official day of 'crafting leave', and to celebrate I made a little birdhouse...

The template and pattern came from Canny Crafters blog here , where she is treating us to a project a day throughout November, aswell as instructing us how to make an amazing advent calendar using a baking tray! I have been waiting for the birdhouse project to come along since Caroline gave us a little teaser, as I have a thing about little birdies and birdhouses....and I think this will be the first of many!

Thank you for the inspiration CC!

Alcohol inks rule!!!

One can never have too many buttons and this week I received these cute little house, tree & heart ones...

...but the pastel shades were not really to my taste...so, I dug out those alcohol inks that Ive had forever but never used, and had a little play...

WOW - I love these inks and am eyeing more things to transform...do I dare beautify my camera...its so tempting!!!

Talking of making things pretty - here is a little flower I created. I cut the flower shapes from felt using a sizzix die, stitched a few buttons on, then filled in the space with a variety of little beads. Some light stuffing and stitched onto its backing. It was so much fun and I think I might have to add this to my pink bag lol!

Have a lovely Thursday! Sue x

Gina..I feel your pain - lets sulk together!

Some time ago I had to sadly report the cancellation of my beloved Club Scrap kit, all due to a conspiracy by FedEx, the tax man..and now the plummeting pound against the dollar! Well, 'Gina the minx' has had to hit that nasty 'cancel my membership' button today, and I want you to know that Im sulking with you sweetie, and am feeling your pain! They say that time is a great healer...pah, Club Scrap stash would do the job so much better!

Sparkly vibes to you Gina! Sue xxx

At last I've done my little bit for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

*UPDATE* Draw closed..winner to be picked tomorrow (Saturday 1st)!!!

Do you like this cute little dotee - she sports a beautiful Breast Cancer Campaign pin and a cheeky wink, and she is looking for a new home! If you would like her to come and live with you, simply leave a comment on this post before the 31st October and I will draw a name out of a hat.

You dont have to have a blog to leave a comment...you can post as 'annonymous', but remember to identify yourself in your post in some way - ie: first name and initial. If the winner is someone I havent met yet, I will post on here for you to send me your details.

Good luck!

Sue x

ps: only one entry per person...Gina the minx lol!

Thank you Caz!

"Sing as if noone is listening,
Dance like noone is watching,
Work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt"

My good friend Caz (AKA Foxcraft) sent this beautiful card to me, made with love and hugs in a tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness month. I thank you Caz, its a beautiful card and I am moved that you should send it to me......what we are waiting for now is for Postman Pat to refrain from holding it hostage!!!

Sparkly vibes to you Caz! Sue x

*UPDATE* A ransom note appeared on my mat today (28th October)...so I went off to Crow Lane and made the drop...and at last Caz's beautiful card is being treasured at home with me! The little dancing kitty is even more lovely in real life!

The Waitrose Six!

Having been indisposed on `crafting leave` for the last four months, my work buddies have had to struggle on without me...lol! Through promo changeovers , new systems being introduced, and no doubt at least a million price changes (upwards most likely) to check...my girls have never complained (well, not to me anyway!) and have wished me well through thick & thin. So I`d like to thank my Waitrose friends - Ella, Lee, Lynn, Mary, Barb & Les, with a little example of what Ive been up to while you have been slogging away zapping the baked beans and freezing down the chiller aisles!

On November 10th I will be back to bug you...armed with these little dotee dolls made just for you!

Thank you my Waitrose girls!!!

ps: Dont forget my duvet & pillow for the snuggle corner!!!

Could this be the smallest dotee doll in the world?!?

As a challenge to myself (and for a bit of a laugh!) I decided to make the smallest dotee possible. Firstly, I embroidered the face as small as I comfortably could onto a bigger piece of felt, then cut around it to give me a small circle. Using 2 x 1" square pieces of blue felt, I cut out a kind of teardrop shape, blanket-stitched the face onto one piece, then proceeded to stitch as many beads and tiny buttons as I could in the space. I added a very small amount of stuffing between the two pieces of felt and over-stitched them together - voila!

I hope that if you click on the piccie you will be able to see a bigger version!

I could say that Im all 'dotee'd out', except that owing to my failure to make a card for my Dad's birthday....and because I left it until about half an hour before he got up on said birthday before I rushed to the shop for a 'bought' card - as punishment..that darned Gina has challenged me to make a male theme dotee doll with a unique shape! And the less said about what Jenni suggested the better lol!!!

Will I ever scrap again......???

A sneak peak!

What a topsy turvey day its been! Firstly I was so engrossed in my book that I didnt get to sleep until 3.30 am....knowing full well that I had to be out of my nest and booted up for 5 am...to grab some much needed add-ons to my Studio Calico kit. Amazingly mission was accomplished - two add-ons 'Alice' and 'Tweedledee', plus 2 lots of extra patterned papers and some clear stamps - a nice haul, and not bad for someone shopping in their sleep! Then it was back to bed and I slithered back out of my nest past lunch time...just in time for a cuppa before the F1 Grand Prix came on - an exciting race full of thrills and spills! Then sis and I dashed out for the last hour of shopping and paid a visit to the 99p store where there were many 'beady' bargains to be had - just the thing for my dotees! Speaking of which - no crafting today so my fifth dotee of the weekend sits waiting to be stitched together....and no time for uploading as Im well ready to return to my nest......but I will leave you with a sneak peak of my latest 'design' lol!

.....if you have a problem with the dotee slide show....

Click on the title 'a dotee is born', and it will show properly. Im finding that it often shows only a few slides then runs out.....there are 26 slides!

Sue x

Dotee dolls....how to...

Since I have been showing off my dotee dolls, I have been asked a few times...'where can I find instructions to make them?' Well, essentially - there are no instructions - they are whatever you want them to be - any shape, any size and embellished in any way you like! But I thought it might help if I showed you how I make mine with the following slide-show showing step by step stages of my purple dotee....soon to be going to her new home!

When I first started making them...not so long ago, I drew out a basic shape that I like to work with, but of course - you may prefer a different shape, maybe your dotees would like arms and legs. For more inspiration, visit here: http://dotslifeandart.blogspot.com/ ...this is the lady who inspired me!

I am currently on a dotee marathon....seeing how many I can make over this weekend - 4 so far...plus another from earlier in the week! I will post piccies when the weekend is over. I only hang onto my first dotee...all the others go to live with very special people!

Have a great weekend! Sue x
